Elite Stadshotellet Karlstad is one of the country´s most beautiful hotels and is centrally located by the riverside of Klarälven close to shopping and restaurants. The hotel offers 183 modern hotel rooms, a cosy pub and modern conference rooms. The hotel also has Vana Spa with hammam and Rooftop by Vana with a pool and bar.
Centrally located in Karlstad, by the river of Klarälven, Elite Stadshotellet offers a delightful stay for business travelers, conference guests and anyone who wants to experience Karlstad. The hotel is located in the city's heart, just a short walk from shopping and culture. If you arrive by train, the central station is just a 7-minute walk from the hotel.
Elite Stadshotellet offers eight modern venues for up to 250 people, for conferences and all kinds of events. On the ground floor facing the river you’ll find the gastropub The Bishops Arms which is a popular meeting place for locals, hotel guests and visitors to the city. You’ll also find a gym at the hotel, equipped with training machines, free weights and a sauna.
In 2021 the hotel expanded with 45 hotel rooms and a spa, Vana Spa, with hammam and the rooftop terrace Rooftop by Vana with a bar and a heated pool. In the open air, visitors can enjoy a fantastic view over Klarälven, good food and drinks from the bar.

A stunning hotel by the river in central Karlstad
Elite Stadshotellet is located on the riverside of the Klarälven in central Karlstad. Stay in a classic hotel with 183 modern rooms and beautiful premises for conferences, meetings and parties. The hotel also has Vana Spa with hammam and Rooftop by Vana with heated pool and bar. With our central location, you have shopping, night clubs, many weekend activities, train and bus connections within easy walking distance. However, it can mean, especially on weekends, that sounds from nightclubs reach our hotel, which can seem disturbing.

Joel i receptionen. Vilken klippa. Fanns inte så mycket ni kunde göra bättre. Vi var 11 personer som var där. Vi hade gett alla barn och barnbarn en helg i Karlstad med hockey. Tyvärr kan inte ni påverka resultatet i hockeyn. Allt var jättebra.

Enkelt att boka via webben och sedan komma i kontakt med personligen också. Trevliga och mänskliga mejlsvar. Halvvimsigt och charmigt med de två husen som sitter ihop, har lärt mig hitta nu. Trevlig personal, aldrig problem med något. Ljuvlig frukost. Rent. Fina rum. Bra med gratis tillgång till härliga poolen på taket.

Uppskattar att det finns restaurang som har öppet då jag ofta kommer lite senare . Mycket bra frukost, fräscht, stort utbud och gott kaffe . Fem av fem stjärnor ! Att erbjuda en parkeringsplats utomhus utanför tillgänglig om man har fordon som inte kan köras ner i garaget.

To go home, god brekfast I have sent a mail. The room was 16 degrese, cold as …. It was Snus in the bed. I order room fore 3 people its was only 2 bathrobes, when I was at the reception I was told that I have to pay for a new bathrobe??? when we finally got up to the roof to take a shower, we were not allowed to put any drinks in the room, that is to say, take the elevator down, walk away and up, walk a long way to the room to get money, so this stay was completely tragic, they didn't even ask me at check out how the stay was, so very very disappointed

Trevlig, vänlig personal. Väldigt bra bemötande vid bokning. Vi var lite besvärliga eftersom hund skulle med o dessutom bo en extra natt utöver Nyårspaketet. Löstes mycket bra av receptionist Jenny. Naturligtvis poolen på taket och att vi kan ta med våra djur Hotellet är bra som det är! Tyvärr var maten på biskop både kall bränd och oätlig det tog ner vår vistelse! För 800 kr vill man ha bättre mat

Jag uppskattade den vackra innemiljön, tystnaden och den fantastiskt fina matsalen med det underbara utbudet på buffén. Jag grät nästan av lycka först gången jag såg allt fint och gott. Kände mig som en prinsessa varje morgon. Det var magiskt. Det var också väldigt trevligt med att ha en mysig Pub i anslutning till Hotellet. Saknade kokt potatis till sillen.

Fresh, modern room, good cleaning. Nice bathroom, nice bed, nice spot in town, nice view and a great breakfast. Nice bar in the hotel too. And a good crew in the reception. Some high leveled spots in the room still had old dust, so a tip to the cleaner is to wipe off everything more thouroughly.

Rooftop-poolen som inte kostade extra. Uppgraderat rummet enligt medlemskap. Större tv på rummet. Orimligt liten tv i förhållande till avståndet man skulle titta på. Varmt i badrummet men kallt i själva rummet. Väntetiden på mat på Bishop var ofta betydligt längre än vad man kan förvänta sig. Dock generellt betydligt bättre mat än andra Bishops jag besökt.

Frukosten var toppen. Dock en sömnlös natt pga. ventilationen som var högljudd i rummet. Dagen efter fick jag byta rum. Vaktmästaren kom flera dagar efter. Hotellchefen erbjöd ingen kompensation på natten eller lösning på mitt klagomål. Ölflaskor i bastun. Bastun har ingen nödknapp. Saknade balsam i rummet. Handdukar saknades. Dålig wifi nätverk i ett av rummen. Jag fick en upgrade men hade redan förlorat en hel natt där jag sov 1-2h max! Så många dialoger under hela min vistelse på grund av fel i rummen. Slösat massor av tid och energi på allt detta..

Jag tog ut 2 frinätter till mig och min sambo för lite omväxling och mys. Jag har bott drygt 20 nätter totalt på stadshotellet de senaste åren och är dessutom Guld medlem sen många år... Jag blev inte uppgraderad och när jag bad om morgonrockar som inte fanns på rummet, fick jag till svar att dessa inte ingår men går att hyra för 75 kr styck... Jag kan bo på Strawberry i Karlstad, där ingår morgonrockar.....

The rooftop pool. The under-hotel parking gave peace of mind, and the proximity of the hotel to the Varmlands museum was a bonus. It was disappointing that children are not allowed in suites. This seems out of kilter with most other luxury hotels, and so introducing a threshold would seem prudent - for example, children under 3 may stay in a suite, but 4 - 10 cannot.

History of the hotel
In 1870, when the hotel was first opened, there was access to materials, skills, and expertise that we can only dream about today. Marble, hardwood, and chandeliers as well as stuccos and ornaments created a special atmosphere and contributed to the way that Stadshotellet in Karlstad still looks like today. It is all about true quality and craftsmanship!
Back in the days, the hotel was one of the largest and most beautiful hotels in Sweden. In 1904 electricity was installed and a few years later each room was fitted with heating pipes and each floor with a toilet. That was regarded as pure luxury – finally the commodes could be removed once and for all.
In 1905 when the agreement to dissolve the union between Sweden and Norway was signed in Karlstad, the entire Norwegian delegation stayed at Stadshotellet.
Many guests have returned year after year to Stadshotellet in Karlstad. One of them, the famous poet Gustaf Fröding, always sat at the same table in the dining room enjoying a glas of arrack punch while he gathered ideas to his poems.
Over the years, the hotel has undergone continuous renovation and updates. We have been careful to let quality rule every step of the way, as we would like to keep the hotel’s charming character for another hundred years. All areas in the hotel have been carefully designed to keep its character and yet remain functional.

By train
The hotel is located 500 metres from Karlstad Central Station. Walk Järnvägsgatan straight up from the central station towards the river (Klarälven). The hotel is on the right side of the bridge.
By bus
The bus station is located at Drottninggatan. Go east along Drottninggatan to the city centre and turn left to Järnvägsgatan. The hotel is located just before the bridge, on the right side of Klarälven.
By car from E18
Drive towards Skåre and then to the city centre. The hotel is located at the corner of Kungsgatan and Museigatan, the entrance is from Kungsgatan.
From Karlstad Airport: drive towards the city centre, keep to the left and turn left to Klara, Tingvalla. After about 400 metres, turn right to Sandbäcksgatan and you will see the hotel on the left side after the bridge.
